Summer exhibition 2023
Christophe Grimonpon was born in Normandy in 1976. He came across the American school of hyperrealism as a student in London. While he draws much of his inspiration from these painters, he does not see himself as a hyperrealist painter, rather as a painter of imaginary realism. Indeed while the main emphasis of his paintings are technically accurate, the settings and the backgrounds are usually imagined.
He focuses mainly on man-made constructions and vehicles, and steers clear of narrative considerations. There are no humans and no stories. It's up to the viewer to breathe life into the silent and dusty worlds of workshops, garages, aerodromes and shipyards.
